Manston Air Force Base - England Royal Air Force Fire Fighting School
Michael Reed, Chief Fire Officer of the RAF, conducted a live burn test with Firematic's new
Foam Blower, Porta-CAFS®.
TEST 1 - 9x9 meter (992 sq.ft.) pit of 125 gallons of JP-4 Jet Fuel. The extinguishing agent is
Class A foam by Macintosh Foam UK.
TEST 2 - Same set up as Test 1 but the extinguishing agent was a combination of a 30 gallon
fire extinguisher using a pre mix of 3% AFFF and water and an outside air cylinder for propulsion.
TEST 3 - 9x9 meter pit with 250 gallons of Jet Fuel and two large steel tanks to create 3 dimensional
obstructions. The upright tank has no top and is half filled with water and Jet Fuel and is constantly
leaking fuel into the pit. After a 1 minute pre-burn, it took One 2-man team with a Porta-CAFS unit
2 minutes and 20 seconds with a 50 GPM eductor using Eco-Pol Class B Foam.
The RAF standard time takes 7 and a half minutes to extinguish 125 gallons (thats half the gallonage
used in the Porta-CAFS test!!!) of Jet Fuel with two crews of two fire fighters using two 1 1/2" lines
at appoximately 125 GPM each of water.
